Australia: The Land Where Everything IS Trying to Kill You

THAT’S right everyone- of course I would do an Australian themed Holy Roman Party. Or should I say HOLY AUSTRALIAN PARTY! Australia is the land of Dangerous Animals, dangerous weather, and dangerous women! Our cemeteries are so full cause everyone is dying to get in them! It’s a land where most of the people believe that centuries of injustice to the aboriginal peoples can be wiped away by a little apology!

Oh, and by the by, Australia’s military record is pretty good too! You would expect people from a land where the weather, women and animals are so dangerous to be pretty decent shots- and hardy! Aussies and New Zealanders paired together in World War One creating one of the world’s most iconic and instantly recognised acronyms- ANZAC. Australia is proud (and very defensive) of its ANZAC tradition- so fine travellers, when you get to Australia don’t mention that most of our troops in WW1 were aggressive and violent thieves and brawlers, even though they most certainly were!

Although Australians love to break the rules, these are some that cannot be broken in this thread:

1.Don’t be a flamin Galah (look this up if necessary)! No Flaming

2.Trolls were left behind in Europe due to the lack of space on the convict ships. No Trolling

3.Fishing is one of Australia’s prime industries, we just don’t like competition. No Baiting

4.We really tire of hearing how we are all descended from convicts- so don’t tell us more then once a week! No double posting unless a week has passed

5.Only the golden oldies still love a nice tin of heavily processed meat! No Spam

6.We landed on Australia because we stole rule 6.

7.And then once released we went and stole rule 7.

8.Here in Aussie, a bit of stupidity- like trying to tickle a brown snake, can get you killed. No Stupidity! But the long hot days need a bit of humour to help them pass. Silliness, on the other hand, is allowed

Ah, having some else pay for it would be a dream.

On a side note, what does everyone think about this Fortnite craze? I havent played the game myself but i reckon it looks pretty cool.

I've played quite a lot of it (almost all Duo's). It's pretty good I guess, but I don't think I'll be playing in six months.

I don't really like how building stuff is an integral part of the combat (probably because I'm terrible at it) and I don't think the middle of the game is fun enough to make it worthwhile. The initial scramble for resources is fun, and the end game is a blast, but the middle is permeated by either doing nothing or by what is really fairly dreary gunplay.

I guess he got buried under yet another mountain of litigation. These things happen. Now worries though, he is a Phoenix. He shall arise once again from the ashes he makes of his opponents and be able to visit our forum again.

Having seen the new Reddit design\layout style all I can say is that game fansites need to become more popular again if Reddit phase out the old style. Change always sparks a bit of a reaction but definitely not a fan of the new style so far.

Oh, one can only hope... Though with Discord, Reddit, Youtube and Twitch, and other stuff out there I suppose it would still be an uphill struggle. There's nothing quite like a well laid out and curated fansite though, and why some Heavens here are still the #1 destination for tips and such for certain games.

In other news, I acquired Lethis - Path of Progress this week while it is on sale at GOG. Takes a bunch of inspiration from the Impressions Games' style of city-builders, so I've been calling upon my inner-housing\industry block designer to whip up some efficient layouts and make my way through the campaign scenarios. A sequel was announced to be in development just last week, so I look forwards to seeing what they change and improve in the second.

Also, anyone playing some Total War: Thrones of Britannia after it releases this week? I'm half interested in it yet also get a little burnt out on Total War formula these days after a while, though I do love me some Warhammer. Think the most consistent fun I have these days with Total War is multiplayer campaigns with friends.

I'm on discord. I use it to chat to people from reddit, a few adds from here wouldn't go amiss.
Funnily enough one of the people I've wound up regularly talking to is a SEGA QA person who works on the total wars. He even used to post here in M2TW days though he can't remember his username >
But he was working on Thrones and seemed quite excited by it, so that's a good thing.

I guess he got buried under yet another mountain of litigation.
Beg to report enemies were gloriously defeated. Mountain of litigation undermined. Now merely good-sized hillock. However, I now find myself in a struggle of a different kind: I'm writing a book (well, co-authoring a new edition of an existing book).

Let me put it like this: the book was meant to have been finished in about 2010.

I hasten to add that I was not involved in it at that point.

So it is moving along at my speed?

Then it should be completed somewhere after 2045, maybe earlier since now Pitt is on the team.

Extrapolating the rate at which posts have been added to this thread, we'll hit 2,500 sometime around July of 2032...

And that's using a linear rate; I think we're more of in more of an exponential decay state- and we're approaching the asymptote.

Oh, I do hope it ends before I do.

Maybe if we got rid of that pesky No-Double-Posting rule, I could spam the thread with my exploits concerning all sorts of wine and song and decadence.

We'd hit that magic barrier right soon then, I'd think.

I imagine that a multi-part saga probably would fill up a few posts.

Agreed Pitt. I would say that your Thousand + years on this earth Terikel would mean you would have many stories to share. I am awfully surprised you havent taken a trip to Hollywood at this stage- surely they would love the option of an epic-open ended tv show or movie series

Oh a side note, what podcasts are people listening to these days? Besides the necessary ones such as Mike Duncan's 'Revolutions', 'The British History Podcast', 'The History of Byzantium' and other such gems, i am listening to a series of comedy podcasts by a Melbourne (AUS) based group- Sanspants Radio. I would highly recommend their Plumbing the Death Star podcast, in which they *comically* look at tv shows, marvel movies etc. Its a nice distraction from the PhD at the moment.

I found my diary the other day. I will share this part with you:

Day 1: still tired from the move. Tried real hard, but they would not put me back in. Something about devils and demons as well.

Day 2: Everyone talks to me like I'm an idiot. How am I to learn to speak properly from morons who say goo-goo-ga-ga at me all the time?

Day 3: Mom learned a new trick from the old Valkyrie. She made a pacifier from a sheep's tit and loaded it with mead. A few sips of that and I am out like a candle in the wind.

Day 4: Dad really hates cleaning my diapers, but he hates my screaming at him even more. Great fun watching the hairy beard curl up at the smell of what is coming out. Ha ha. Mom makes him though, and takes away his axe and sword before letting him near me. I just smile and say goo-goo like the other morons. That always makes him a softy. These people are so easily manipulated. Tomorrow I will try crying for no reason, hoping Momm will give me more of that sheep's tit. or her own. I am not picky.

Mine too.

Between work which puts me on the road 4-6 hours a day, and home where tasks are piling up, I have very little time to do anything other than plop down upon return, fill a horn with mead (not in that order) and sack out before the magic Glass Curtain together with Wifey and the Terikelings.

I do pop by here every day, swat the occasional spambot here and in the other sites I monitor (had a funny one the other day), then move on.

My PhD is currently absorbing alot of my mental capacity, my home time is taken up with spending time with the Fiancee who is working as well (so trying to enjoy some time together), and i am currently Dungeon Mastering 2 different games of Dungeons and Dragons for my friends, which absorbs the remaining time.
