My house, I really don't care for travel. I hated New York with a passion, I hate downtown Cincinnati, and I hate Florida. The USAAF Museum was quite nice. I probably just hate travelling with my family come to think about it.

Tokyo is, hands down, my favorite place I've ever visited ever ever ever. Nowhere else I've been comes close. That said, I've had a lot of people tell me Berlin is similarly excellent so that's certainly on my bucket list.

I personally get a big kick out of cruises and cruising myself.

Lots of my friends say they wouldn't enjoy a cruise, but I think it sounds amazing. Good food and drinks by the pool, then a different place to visit every couple days? Count me in. The only downer is that I have this impression that cruises are full of old people.

I'm working for Her Majesty The Queen as a Royal Warden of Windsor Castle over the summer. Something different. I hope I meet the corgis.

And then at some stage I'll be heading off to Hong Kong, and possibly skipping over to Japan too. Yay!

As for my favorite place I've visited, I have to say it would be Switzerland; I don't think I've ever seen a more beautiful country.

If someone gives me tickets to a cruise, I'm quite certain I'd laugh, and then feel bad because they'd be serious about it.

As for places I've visited that were nice, Malta hands down is kickass. Cyprus might be awesome as well during the prime time (summer), but when I was there it was really meh. It also didn't help I couldn't travel too far from Limassol. And a Russian intelligence ship was in the same harbor as us. I would maybe go to Dubai again, as the Arabs were extremely polite and respectful as long as we were the same, it was really cool to see a very modern, recently built megacity, and the prices were cheap or slightly below American standards. Two custom tailored three piece suits with all the bells and whistles for $700, delivered to me in less than 24 hours? COMPLETELY fine with that.

But damn, Malta was part all the time, and when you didn't want to party, there are plenty of places you can go to find peace and quite. There's a plethora of churches, cathedrals and such which are brilliant both inside and out, the Knights of St. John have history all over the island, and there's some Phoenician history there as well!!

The only downside to Malta was that you couldn't judge a girls age. What we thought was a girl that looked mid-20s was actually a recently turned 17 year old. Another that looked 21 or 22, was 16. Knowing that Malta has one of the slowest judicial systems in Europe, and they take sex with minors very seriously, it made you think more than twice about trying something with the local girls. That being said, there were three chicks that worked at the Hard Rock Cafe that were ****ing awesome. Attractive, great service and just fun people to talk with, my group of friends went there no fewer than 4 times in 5 days.

Malta, 9/10 would go again.

I have plundered visited Gozo, the island next to Malta. I can concur with very much of what was scribbled by Punic Hebil.

While the goat farm on the roof of the building next to the restaurant was quaint, Mrs Greyhair did not think much of it. You would think after spending nigh onto an eternity sleeping next to me she would find the scent of goat refreshing, but no. The villa we did commandeer had its own spring, deep enough to submerge oneself standing up (the locals called it a pool but I think they were lying. Everyone knows pool is a billiards game).

The women were exotic enough to pique interest (dark hair, big eyes, pert breasts) but as Punic states, impossible to judge the age. As Mrs Greyhair was at my side, I need not sample the local females, but marriage does not make one blind.

I did not like the fact that they drove on the wrong side of the road. It took me decades to get used to a wheel instead of a bridle, and now this as well?

I've had a lucky year in which I was able to travel to Iceland, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, The Netherlands, Poland, Ireland, the UK, Portugal and Switzerland. Iceland was definitely the most beautiful. We rented a car in Reykjavik and just drove it around. In two weeks I'm leaving for Australia and I'm pretty sure that will knock Iceland from its number one spot!

edit: oh, and Luxembourg. Sorry for forgetting about you Luxembourg.

Are you sure you're not saying that just to make AE happy? Sounds like you've been having an exciting time traveling places; what's been the impetus/allowed you to do that?

I was studying abroad in Sweden for ten months at an enormously chill university. Met many people there from all over the world and we quickly became a close circle of good friends. We'd spend a lot of our time travelling since we had loads of free time anyway. Most of the trips were pretty spontaneous - let's get on a booze cruise and visit Estonia! Let's hop on a plane and go drive in Iceland! And so forth. All trips were low-budget; I wouldn't be able to afford them otherwise.

Kissass.. Where are you headed if you dont mind me asking? It is Winter down here so I dont think you will evaporate on landing like most other poms do.

Well this is mostly true.

I'm actually really glad it's going to be winter out there. It's a hot Belgian summer (according to Belgian standards) and I'm already barely coping; I do think I wouldn't survive a week in an Australian summer.

I'm landing into Darwin where I'm gonna rent a 4WD and drive around a few national parks for a bit. Then I'm flying to Perth and spend some time there with a couple of Australian friends I met back in Sweden. Then I'm flying to Melbourne where I'll meet up with another Aussie friend and just spend time downtown and do the Great Ocean Road. Then fly to Sydney and do the same. Then fly to Cairns and do the rainforest and The Great Barrier Reef. Then I'm basically flying back but I'll stop in Oman for two weeks.

All those creatures trying to kill me aside, I'm most worried about driving on the left. I'm sure I'll do fine after a bit, I'm just quite worried about the first hour of driving. I mean, I'm renting a car from a rental company in downtown Darwin, so I'll start off in city traffic, which sounds horrifying. I'll be a lot calmer when I'm out of the city and into the outback.

But the Great Ocean Road is the scenic road from Victoria to Sydney, so how are you flying if you are driving this road? Unless you are only going a short section then turning back?

I'm driving Melbourne-Port Fairy-Melbourne; so yeah just part of it and then turning back. If I could spend some extra time in Australia I'd consider doing the whole thing but 'alas I need to be back for the start of the semester.

It seems like you have had an amazing year travelling around the globe... I wish I could do that too, but my only plans consist of a three-day trip to Elafonisos...
