They stand on the crow's nest during battle. I have dismasted many ships and in the process taken out many captains way too easily. Why did CA do this? Historically the Quarterdeck was where they stood and commanded, not the flipping crow's nest. CA distress me at times.

My admiral did a Nelson in one battle, going up to the crow's nest along with the ship's captain.

Fortunately, I haven't lost any masts while they were up there.

Not exactly normal behaviour, even if Farragut did do it at Mobile Bay.

They work like officers and hurt the ship's moral.

It can get sort of crazy with men in the riggings because if the crew ever needs to abandon ship the people up top tend to jump to the decks below killing themselves in the process.

Yea there are captains in the crows nest. even my captains have been there on the odd occasion. When i first noticed this i went "hmm that's odd" just when my ship got demasted =(

Captain: Sally up the main mast and tell me what you see

That would be my choice poistion. At least you would die or be knocked out by the impact of whatever you hit when you fall....Beats drowning in my book
