Firstly, thanks to Legion of Hell for suggesting this thread. I couldn't wait to see it up. All credit for it is his, I can't claim any.

Call this speculation of the highest order, but I reckon for some random reason you'll be able to name ships in Empire Total War.

And so this forum isn't filled with threads on mere speculation and a handful of teasers: if my guess is right, what would you call your ships?

I'd name one The Valiant.
EoJ will know from where.

Otherwise I'd probably ignore any naming feature.

I'd have a fleet of three:
HMS Daring, HMS Audacity and HMS Suicidal Insanity.

I'd probably use all of the classic Royal Navy names.

Reads thread and mutters *Sneaky little Gael*.

I would call the Battle Fleet: TWH Battle Fleet and I would name the ships as certain forummers that use TWH: such as HMS Gaius, HMS Jupitor, HMS Legion and my favourite HMS Justice.

Hey, if you could name your ships in the game, maybe we can do a swap game when ETW comes out and name the ships: that would be ace.

General Rawlinson- This is most unsatisfactory. Where are the Sherwood Foresters? Where are the East Lancashires on the right?

Brigadier-General Oxley- They are lying out in No Man's Land, sir. And most of them will never stand again.

Got high ambitions for your fleet, eh?

I think it's more likely that ships will have names assigned to them by the game (the names depending on what faction you are), since we've never had the option to name things (of course with the new option of starting colony settlements that might change anyway). But even if the game did it, you could still edit game files to get a set of names you wanted.

I'll probably search through my bookcase for good names, so I'll have ships such as the Revenant from Sharpe, to the Xanthos from the Troy series. Random people from the books will also feature, eg, the Aubrey.

Plural because it sounds cooler when translated, and two...heh, two because I speak two-thirds Gaelic and one third Scots as my first language, remember?

They speak more Gaelic in the Islands where you are, Andrew! It's not fair...I might move

EDIT: Andalus...heh ...the Kingdom of Great Britain only exists because a Scot (a Campbell, seriously, we have done some idiotic things in our time...) convinced the Scottish Parliament to join a neutral merge of parliaments. And there was an ancestrally Scottish monarch on the throne at the time as well, of both England and Scotland.

In a sense I am playing as Scotland

Um...well, actually...English isn't my first language, and well over half of Scotland speaks either Scots or Gaelic. A quarter of Wales speaks Cymraeg. They learn it in primary school, apparently.

I'd name them after all the traditional names for Dutch ships in this period. One after each of the seven provinces (Gelderland, Holland, Overijssel, Groningen, Friesland, Zeeland, Utrecht), then of course the Zeven Provinciën, and then after that I'd grab my biographies of Dutch admirals and take the others from there.
